Want to hear something funny? Well, it’s funny to me anyway. For the time I’ve had this blog, there’s definitely been some funny occurrences, even if they didn’t seem that funny at the time. Well, this one takes the biscuit – in fact, it’s an instant classic in my book.
Here’s a little story about a tape measure:
This tape measure lives in a drawer in my desk, and it’s been with me from the start. Now, when I intend on measuring my arms, the tape measure sometimes comes out crinkled so I smooth it out a little by running it between my fingers, and occasionally give it a little bit of a pull if it’s really twisted up.
Now, it never occurred to me that I was stretching the tape too forcefully and damaging the integrity of it by permanently stretching it; but that thought occurred to me today. First I put it against the other end of the tape (the unused end), and then measured my arms with the unused end and lo-and-behold my suspicions were confirmed: my arms are a full 3/8” bigger than the lower end of the tape was reporting. And, to confirm it, I even measured it against a proper metal tape measure and the same result: the lower end of my trusty tape measure (up to the part I’ve been using, anyway) is covering a full 3/8” more than it should be.
I was real pleased to say the least, but a few sips of coffee soon got my brain warmed up and contemplating the bigger picture: I realised a more important measurement has actually gained around 1/8”, too…
What can I say? I feel like a new man
