Work them very sparingly.
In some instances, Vince didn’t even recommend working the abs at all – particularly if you were a beginner.
Not only was it Vince’s theory that too much abs work can disrupt muscle growth in other areas of the body by sending the central nervous system into shock, but, that by working the abs too frequently, and for too many reps and sets, you can can actually end up giving the abs a smooth, bloated look – which is not what you want.
Also, Vince believed the midsection got enough of a workout by supporting the body during other lifts, and most people simply didn’t need to do direct abs work.
Besides, until your body fat is extremely low, you won’t see your abs anyway. It may be that you already have fantastic abs, but, you just need to lose enough stomach fat to see them. That’s how to get great abs, the Vince Gironda way.
