It could be said that Louie Simmons of Westside Barbell knows a thing or two about the human body and how best to train it. After all, the guys at Westside Barbell are consistently among the strongest in the world, and, that does not come about just because of steroids – in their world, it’s the actual training methods which give them the edge.
Whilst reading The Westside Barbell Book of Methods by Louie Simmons, I came across an interesting point Louie made: that really, the only difference between the deadlift and the squat as a movement, is the squat is performed with the barbell on the back, and the deadlift performed with the barbell hanging below, in the hands.
I guess other obvious differences in execution would include the fact the deadlift is stationary at the bottom of the movement, and also for most people, would not go below parallel.
So, for those who don’t like squatting, or can’t, maybe you could supplement it with extra deadlifts.
