Long, sweeping lats. That’s what bodybuilders need to look good. And, it’s what strength trainees need to perform their best. Bent over rows are normally recommended for building great lats, and so they should be. But, there is a way to vary this great lat exercises to make it work the lower regions of the lats, which are most often neglected.
On a DVD I have, legendary Westside Barbell strength trainer Louie Simmons puts forward the simple tip of performing bent over rows using an underhand grip, as opposed to an overhand grip, as a means of hitting the lower area of the lats.
During the demonstration, I also noticed the lifter made his grip slightly wider when switching to underhand.
