Just When I Thought I Was Out… They Pull Me Back In!
It seemed like I was hovering at 13.5 stone for weeks, despite eating what I knew must have been well below maintenance levels. I knew something must be wrong, so I did some research and discovered a very interesting facts on fat loss I was completely oblivious to. (Well, nearly.)
The longer your fat loss diet continues and the less you eat… the slower your metabolism becomes, and the harder it becomes to lose the fat.
Now, I knew that when you starved yourself, you put yourself at risk of stopping fat loss because your body enters survival mode. But, I was far from starving myself. So this was a reality check.
As soon as I read that, I realised that must be my problem: My body had literally run out of fat loss steam. I immediately began eating more calories. My training regime stayed the same, and my bike riding excursions (once or twice a week for a few hours) remained. I began losing fat again.
I’m now seeing the veins in my arms more clearly which is a great sign (no, I’m not a smack head), and when I flex my biceps they feel rock solid compared to how they were: slightly spongy with fat tissue.
And today…
Today, I weighed myself. I’m now at 13 stone – and maybe a whisker under. This is precisely the weight I started at. And because my muscles are a good bit bigger than they were when I started (even my arms, which I feel haven’t exactly grown a great deal – they are still ¾ of an inch bigger, relaxed, with no pump) this has to mean I now have less body fat than I began with. Great!
So, from here on out, every lb of fat I lose I’m going to celebrate with a massive tub of ice cream. (Just kidding.)
Seriously though, thank God I learned this fact and put it right, I was on the brink of almost thinking I couldn’t lose any more fat and was thinking about bulking again.
Now I know the score completely, I’ll be continuing the fat loss until I’m at 12 stone at least. Then I’ll be doing a slow, clean bulk, circumventing this long, drawn out cutting rubbish for good, while staying in great shape all year round.
I can’t wait.
