Weight Training Or Cardio First?

For optimum results, you need to decide upon doing weight training or cardio first, and hopefully, this article will help you decide which is right for you.

The argument for which should come first, weight training or cardio, is pretty old, and pretty intense. There are no hard and fast rules: a large part of it is personal preference, and the advice which I’m going to give you will undoubtedly go against much of the advice given or favoured by others, but, this way makes the most sense to me.

You need to ask yourself, what are your goals? Do you know? How sure are you?

If you are looking to build muscle, then the only thing which is going to allow you to build muscle is weight training. And, in order for you to perform your very best (which you’ll need to do) then your muscles must be full of glycogen (energy). If your muscles are lacking in glycogen, then your lifting performance will suffer, and so will your muscle gains. Therefore in this instance, it makes much more sense to put your weight training first.

If, on the other hand, your main goal is to lose weight, or improve endurance fitness, again, you’ll need to use the energy stored in your muscles to perform this task to your very best ability, so I think it makes much more sense to put your cardio first.

I’m a very big believer in trying things out for myself, and everybody will have their own preference. I advise you to give both a go, one week of each, and see which you prefer.
