First Workout With Hack Squats

As I told you previously, pending an equipment upgrade I’ve had to convert to hack squats. Last time I performed regular squats, I was on 75 kg, and felt quite comfortable. But since I was on hack squats this time, and requiring slightly different mechanics - including needing a good grip to hold the bar, I went for a conservative 60 kg workload. Ease myself into it, I thought…

And what a difference I felt!

It was hitting my quads so much I felt like they were going to explode; I particularly felt a big difference towards the lower quad, where the inner muscle meets the knee. (I believe, according to Google Images, that’s the Vastus Medialis.)

The grip wasn’t such an issue and I could’ve probably held more, but I certainly hit my quads good and proper with 60 kg. By the time I finished my last rep of my last set and put the bar down, for a few seconds, it was all I could do to shuffle like Albert Steptoe while my heavily fatigued legs regained some energy. I don’t recall having been so affected by regular squats…

I didn’t expect this at all. I was worried for a while that my development might become arrested since I had to switch from regular squats a while, so I’m very surprised. If I’m feeling it in different parts of my thighs, it can only lead to better overall development, so I’m smiling like The Joker.
